For the past 35 years, the course has been rooted
in the family history of the Ebel family. The children, Autumn,
Julia, Shauna, Heather, Zhanna and CJ, have held every position
imaginable at a golf operation, from running the restaurant
to washing balls and filling buckets. They all helped build
and make Haystack the success it is today.
A remarkable sense of humor has carried Lois through thirty-five
years of ups and downs. The downs were weathered only because
of the unrelenting dedication of the family and close friends.
Lois’s fifth daughter, Zhanna, grew up working at the
course’s
famous Et Yet? Inn. After living in California and Missouri, Zhanna returned
to Colorado in 1996 with her husband, Adam, to work for Haystack as an administrative
assistant. Her endurance and enthusiasm has allowed her to work her way up
to her current title, General Manager.
Zhanna’s husband Adam stepped
in, while working full-time at another company, to assist with the clubhouse
renovation in 1996. He joined the Haystack
team full-time in 1997. His diligence and focus on customer service quickly
led him to the Clubhouse Manager position, overseeing the day-to-day clubhouse
operation.
As an honorary family member for his support and devotion,
Clay Johns has been with Haystack Mountain for over twenty
years, becoming an invaluable asset to the family as the course’s
Superintendent. He continues to make the course a wonderful
environment to play the game of golf.
Lois, Zhanna, Adam, Clay, and pro Rick all work as a team
to provide excellent customer service and a relaxing atmosphere
for golfers of all abilities and playing levels to enjoy the
game. The family tradition continues to be passed down to third
generation, as Zhanna and Adam’s young girls, Aspen and
Adara, just love to help with the “inventory” of
the clubhouse candy. Julia and Scott’s children, Aaron
and Sheah, spent a summer of grounds clean-up and Heather’s
daughter, Daralynn, seems to have a knack in the sales department,
selling cold lemonade to thirsty golfers.
With over 63 courses in the Denver/Boulder area today, the
Ebel’s have carved out a niche as a teaching course that
caters to a broad range of golfers while focusing on course
improvements rather than expansion, and remaining a friendly,
family-oriented, and relaxing place to enjoy the game of lifetime.
